Up until last year, I had managed to go without having a car, and therefore, had gone without the knowledge that comes with owning a car in the state of Virginia. Right after I bought it, I didn’t worry about much until I had to pay the property tax on the thing several months later, and that was just the beginning. Other wonderful things that come with owning a car that were new to me:
- Safety and emissions inspection
- Vehicle registration
- County registration (and accompanying fees, and fortunately no more decal)
- Other various things I am both too lazy to mention and/or don’t remember
So June 1 rolls around on Monday, and I wake up this morning only to realize that, oh no, my registration expired, as evidenced by my MAY 09 decals. Oops. Time to renew online.
Browsing through DMV’s website, I find a random link to a guide to HOV lanes in Virginia with an absolutely stellar FAQ section. The best one, hands down, has got to be this one:
I’m pregnant. Do I count as one person or two?
In the HOV world, you’re one person. However, babies of any age count as a person.
And, completely (or at least somewhat) unrelated: doing a random search for “VA carpool” yielded this result from Google: CarPool, a retro car themed pool sports bar. Weird.
